Although André Previn had not recorded a regular jazz album in 27 years at this point in time (discounting a pair of Itzhak Perlman sessions featuring Previn's compositions), the great majority of the performances on this trio set with guitarist Joe Pass and bassist Ray Brown are first takes. Previn took time off from his busy schedule in the classical music world to return briefly to jazz, his first love. The results are often magical. Previn, Pass and Brown play together as if they had been touring as a group for years. The pianist is generous with solo space and Pass' solos are sometimes exhilarating. For Previn, it is as if the previous three decades did not occur for he plays in a style little changed from 1960, displaying an Oscar Peterson influence mixed in with touches of Lennie Tristano and Bill Evans' chording, performing ten standards and his own "One for Bunz." 这张 The Very Tall Band ，Telarc 有发行 1、2集，同样都是 Oscar Peterson、Milt Jackson 及 Ray Brown 的合作演出，不过 Fim 先刻第一集。另外还有这张中译名为"下班后"：

Remarkable combo Here! 5 Stars!

This CD is one of about 5 CDs that I listen to very frequently. Firstly, because I play jazz guitar and I love to her Pass play with absolute purity on each solo. Posthumously, Pass plays superbly and the CD is laid out very well. Starting with "There Will Never Be Another You" sure sets the stage.
The CD captures Previn and Pass [literally] playing off each other's solos and one quickly discerns that there was much fun going on when these three jazz masters recorded it! Per usual, Ray Brown's freshness shined through and his remarkable sense of snagging the beat most creatively, enabled them to play without a drummer.
Previn is known both as a classical player and jazz player. This CD evidences a man with almost surreal skill and aptitude while playing solos and too, playing sweet chordal progessions during Brown and Pass' solos!
Get this CD and listen to it a few times. You will have listened to it 300 times by year's end! Awesmome summarily sums it up! Buy it!

Excellent late-night mello Jazz

For those looking to start a Jazz collection, this is hidden treasure. The album keeps a constant late-night mood throughout and the technical wizardry of Previn and Pass reinforces the quiet feel with some incredibly interesting and enjoyable music. The album ends wonderfully with "One for Bunz", so good that it makes me start the album over. Do yourself a favor and pick it up
