Shawn Mendes和Avril Lavigne 是老乡哦， 妈妈是英国人，爸爸是有葡萄牙血统。他在城市的郊区长大。妈妈是房地产代理人，爸爸Manuel Mendes是一名商人。Shawn最开始是在2013年Vine上发布自己的翻唱视频，通过自己的六秒钟精华时间，慢慢得到了人们的关注和认可。
后来2014年一月份被经纪人Andrew Gertler发掘，最后带他去了Island Records签约了。
他在2014年6月26日发行了自己的首支单曲Life of the party ， 这首歌的成绩十分不错，使得Shawn成为了首支单曲就可以打进Billboard前24的最年轻的歌手。

“Handwritten” is the debut studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter and pop sensation Shawn Mendes. It was released on digital retailers on 14 April 2015 via Island Records.
It comes preceded by the eponymous debut extended play “The Shawn Mendes EP” and the smash single “Life of the Party“. The lead single from the album is the song “Something Big“, released on 7 November 2014.
Fans can pre-order the album on iTunes from February 2 and instantly get a download of his brand-new song “A Little Too Much“, as well as four other unreleased songs.
The song “Never Be Alone” was premiered as next promotional single on Valentine’s Day. “Stitches” was released as countdown single on iTunes on 24 February. “Kid In Love” was released as countdown single on 7 April.
