和以往着重表现船难不同，《泰坦尼克号：血与钢》叙述的重点是泰坦尼克号建造期间白星航运公司内外的政治与经济角力，他们在建造这艘大船时由于经济压力而被迫对设计做了修改，而正是这致命的妥协导致了后来的船难。
这部电视剧揭开这艘超级梦幻巨轮从设计到诞生的不为人知的过程，以及后期因为在资金方面的捉襟见肘而削减了救生梯数量，从而一方面造成了沉船后大批乘客命断北冰洋的惨剧的缘由。
